Sean O’Connor of SOS Illustration & Design has been working in illustration and graphic design for more than 22 years. Over that time, he has developed a positive working relationship with many previous clients, and has gained experience as an in-house illustrator, designer, and photo manipulator.

Professional Background
Sean has worked for numerous corporations, ad agencies, design studios, and publishing houses. He has worked as a freelancer and educator, and has more than five years of experience in the prepress industry. In this capacity, he handled computer-aided design, illustration, and production design. He is able to create accurate reproductions of artworks with CMYK, RGB, and index colors.

He has two years of additional experience operating an Isomet 800 drum scanner and an Iris inkjet printer. From 1993 until 1999, Sean worked for Accu-Color Inc., a St. Louis-based computer-aided design firm. He operated a Crossfield Colorspace™ retouching station, doing photo manipulation, and also worked as an in-house illustrator and designer.

Teaching
Sean has more than five years of experience as a part-time teacher. He taught courses on graphic design and illustration at Florissant Valley Community College in St. Louis from 1995 until 2003.

Freelance Graphic Design
In 1997, Sean produced numerous illustrations and designs for R.K. Stratman Inc. and Advanced Screen Printing Inc., for use in the apparel industry. In 1998, he designed the promotional material for West End Diving’s trips to the Bonne Terre Mine for scuba diving excursions.

Freelance Illustration
Sean has created numerous cartoons and medical illustrations for Beaumont Graphic in Maryland Heights, Missouri. These were used in medical books by Mosby Medical Inc. He created multiple editorial illustrations for St. Louis’s Hartmann Publications Inc. from 1995 until 2002, which were featured in the Riverfront Times Magazine.

In 2001, he created illustrations for Scholastic book publications for Lakewood Publications of Minneapolis. In 2002 Sean took a sabbatical to pursue other endeavors. However continued to create a yearly Christmas cards for Sprinklerfitters Local 268 since 2001. In 2005, he began offering commissioned work to the private sector in the St. Louis area, including portraitures and paintings for various vehicles including motorcycles and watercrafts. Starting SOS illustration & Design in 2009.

Sculpture Work
In 2001, Sean was commissioned by Sprinkleriftters Local 268 to design a lapel pin, a gold coin, and to build a sculpture using the United Pipe Trade Logo. He then produced a three-dimensional sculpture of the logo with a fountain in the middle, made of copper tubing brazed together. The sculpture was powder-coated with a bronze patina. A silver sprinkler head protrudes from the center and directs the water flow.

Industrial Design Experience & Software
In 1999, Sean received industrial design and CAD experience when he was hired by Nor-dyne Inc. to help create a new furnace assembly line. He worked on the instructional manuals to be used in the construction of these new furnaces. He used CAD and Alibre® Design software.

Education
Sean attended Florissant Valley Community College in St. Louis from 1984 until 1989, graduating with an Associate’s in Advertising Design and Commercial Art. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after attending the school from 1990 until 1993.

Sean also received a degree in Computer-Aided Sciences for DuPont’s Printing & Publishing Division in Glen Rock, New Jersey. This qualified him to operate a Crossfield ColorSpace retouching station in 1994.
